1. Welcome
Located in the heart of the Third Ward, Emancipation Park is a welcoming, opportunity-rich open space in which we explore and celebrate freedom. It all started in 1872 when formerly enslaved community leaders and civic organizations raised funds to purchase 10 acres of park land for hosting Juneteenth celebrations, to commemorate the anniversary of their emancipation. Today Emancipation Park provides culturally enriching and community-advancing programs. Its design promotes every kind of participation from looking on to diving in, and self-guided exploration to structured recreation.
